- SAN JUAN
For a taste of the 16th century, visit the narrow, cobblestone lanes of Old
San Juan and El Morro Castle. If the glittering nightlife of new San Juan
intrigues you, don't miss the casinos of the Condado district.
- ST. MAARTEN
The French and the Dutch signed a treaty in 1648 that divided the island between
them. The two sides have distinct cultural characteristics and they spell
the island's name differently, but it's their differences that add to the
charm of this Caribbean hideaway -- not to mention some of the most amazing
cuisine in the world. This island beauty has everything you could possibly
want in shopping, sightseeing and watersports. You'll find some of rhe Caribbean's
best diving spots, atmospheric pirate castles, beautiful beaches and a charming
town devoted to duty-free shopping.
- ST. LUCIA
One of the loveliest Caribbean isles, explore St. Lucia via mountain bike
to Errad Falls or take in 10 miles of scenic trails, including Tinker's Trail
for views of the twin peaks of the Pitons.
- GRENADA
Grenada has been dubbed "Spice Island" because of the impressive
amounts of nutmeg, cloves, mace, cinnamon, ginger and cocoa grown here. And
the dense forests and colorful markets have long attracted visitors to its
fragrant shores. Covering this volcanic island are cascading rivers and lush
rainforests, plus centuries-old spice plantations and rum distilleries still
using traditional methods of production.
- BONAIRE
If you think you've seen everything, come explore the kunuku, a Caribbean
style outback terrain. Here nature serves up prickly cactus where iguanas
feel at home. And the offshore waters shimmer like a million aquamarine gemstones.
- ARUBA
Dutch influence still lingers on Aruba as part of the Netherlands' Antilles
until independence in 1986. This balmy Caribbean island is a study in contrasts.
Its arid interior is dotted with cactus and windswept divi-divi trees while
secluded coves and sandy beaches form its coast. Aruba's long and colorful
heritage is reflected in its dialect. Called Papiamento, it's a combination
of Spanish, French, Portuguese, Dutch, African and English.
